Hi sizzlinkola.. :welcome:

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review along with a fresh HJT log.

Thanks

Fred.

Thanks for replying, Fred. Unfortunately, ComboFix.exe won't run on my laptop, it shows the process in Task Manager but there is no window.

It's most likely being blocked by a process called "avgrsx.exe" which is the AVG Resident Shield. I cannot end the process as I just click the button and it still remains in the window. I tried disabling ALL AVG services in startup and msconfig and the process still shows. I've tried disabling the Resident Shield itself in the AVG User Interface but the process still shows.

What can I do now up to this point?

Hi sizzlinkola.. Try these instructions HERE, that usually works.. you might need to disable it and reboot.
Try ComboFix again, any problems and we will try a different tool.

I've already mentioned that in my above post. The screenshot found in the link is the AVG User Interface. I'm positive that Resident Shield is disabled and it still shows as a process in Task Manager and ComboFix still won't run but shows as a process. I guess we have to try a different tool.

Hi sizzlinkola..

Let's give MBAM a whirl,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply.
  • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this: C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Once finished, try ComboFix again to see if it will run now.
If AVG still interferes with it I suggest you temporarily uninstall it, it can be replaced later.

Thanks

Fred..

I've used MBAM before my explorer.exe started acting up and every time when it got to extracting files, it would just freeze. I thought it was corrupt and this time I downloaded another one and now the setup won't run but it does show in the processes.

You know what, I'm just going to reformat it. I don't have anything important on this laptop and it'll probably only take an hour. Thanks for all the help you were trying to give me. I'm sorry for the trouble.

If I EVEN have problems reformating, I'll create another thread. Thanks, see you soon.

Hi sizzlinkola..

If as you say, you have nothing to lose by way of personal files / pictures etc, then a reformat is the best and quickest way to cure an infected computer!
If you do need any assistance with the reformat, feel free to post back in this thread and I will point you towards a tutorial.

Good luck.. :)
