I did a Gibson's Shields Up scan and came up with the following ....

Attempting connection to your computer. . .

Shields UP! is now attempting to contact the Hidden Internet Server within your PC. It is likely that no one has told you that your own personal computer may now be functioning as an Internet Server with neither your knowledge nor your permission. And that it may be serving up all or many of your personal files for reading, writing, modification and even deletion by anyone, anywhere, on the Internet!

Your Internet port 139 does not appear to exist!
One or more ports on this system are operating in FULL STEALTH MODE! Standard Internet behavior requires port connection attempts to be answered with a success or refusal response. Therefore, only an attempt to connect to a nonexistent computer results in no response of either kind. But YOUR computer has DELIBERATELY CHOSEN NOT TO RESPOND (that's very cool!) which represents advanced computer and port stealthing capabilities. A machine configured in this fashion is well hardened to Internet NetBIOS attack and intrusion.

Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer.
All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet.

Question: Should I uninstal the File & Printer Sharing for Microsoft? I am having an awful time trying to make this post ... it deletes itself and all sorts of strange things happen.

Thanks.

Hi Peaches,
Nothing bad in the above report, on the contrary it claims:

immediately rang a bell with me as I had similar problems a few months ago which turned out to be a faulty keyboard. If you have a spare it might be worth swapping it out just to eliminate hardware faults.

If that doesn't work, give MBAM a whirl just to see if anything insidious is lurking and we'll take it from there! :

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save to your desktop.

  • Right-click mbam-setup.exe And select " Run as administrator " then follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Check all items except items in the C:\System Volume Information folder... and click Remove Selected.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Thanks
Fred.. :guitar:

Before submitting a log I want to try a few things first ... I slowed down the mouse; disabeled the enhanced feature however, this is working so, so!!. I will try a different mouse and then a different keyboard to eliminate that area and if that fails & is not the issue, then I will do the Log as suggested. I have the pro version of Malwarebytes.

I did a malware scan and it found zero; did an antivirus scan, found nothing; did an A-Squared scan [have pro version] and it found nothing. secunia advises there are no software breaches ... everything is patched. I am using a black mouse pad which is recommended for an Optical mouse ... the mouse has fresh batteries in it .

Will get back to you as soon as I know for sure it is not a hardware problem ... forgot about hardware until you made mention of the keyboard altho my keyboard is only a couple of years old

Thanks Fred.

Thanks Fred for your suggestion re keyboard ... keyboard is fine but my mouse settings were the cause of this issue. The mouse settings were wrong for an optical mouse ... I changed the settings and now things are back to normal. I do not recall changing anything prior to this issue but I tell you, I sure had a wild ride for the last several days and the mouse behaved like as if someone had hacked my computer. I never thought it might be something so simple .... I feel rather foolish now but thanks anyway for your suggestion as you really did help solve the problem. :guitar:

I have had some really wierd problems myself because of an optical mouse but I still love them. I always set them to be the LEAST sensitive as possible. My settings have changed twice by themselves for no known reason but I set them back and they good for a few more months.
