An alternate help file for Becky! is now available at
http://davidskirk.org/becky/ and there is now a link to it from RimArts page at http://www.rimarts.co.jp/becky.htm

I developed this over the past few months as a means for me to learn many of the features and nuances of Becky! It is not a rewrite of Tomohiro's work; I wouldn't do that. Instead, I restructured the help file and clarified some topics, plus I added many links and index entries. Tomohiro plans to use the content in future Becky! releases.

However, he also plans to keep the old structure so that the English and Japanese versions are similar, so some of the benefits will not be part of new Becky! releases. This revised version is approximately 60% larger than the original version. He and I agreed that some of you may prefer this full version to take advantage of some new topics and the new structure. The help file can only be invoked by the Help>Help Topic menu entry. That is, pressing F1 doesn't work, nor does the Help>FAQ menu.

Over time, I do hope to expand the help file and I'm sure there are errors here and there. If you do locate errors or have suggestions, the email address to send to is in the install instructions. No promises, though. This is a spare time project... :) Install instructions are in the download.

My latest update to the help file for 2.56 is now available at
http://davidskirk.org/becky/ If you installed the latest Becky! version 2.56
then you already have a lot of what is in this file, but this new file has
several additional topics and features, since I try to stay ahead of the
official releases. This also includes information for visually impaired users
and I added some information regarding the recent Yahoo! post on
aliases. A list of major changes is documented in the download.

Okay, mostly for new or infrequent users... I have an updated help file at
http://davidskirk.org/becky/ for Becky 2.56 version 2.

File has grown from 140k to approx 253k in past month. Full information on
changes is in documentation. For example, the hierarchy of templates is
explained, plus headlines, Quick Access, scrolling, printing HTML messages,
major update on Agents and more. At this point, I'm taking a rest... :)

And... I actively seek corrections and omissions and suggestions. Thanks,
david

Version 3 of the Help File is now available as of Dec 29, 2010.

Mostly for new or infrequent users... I have an updated help file at http://davidskirk.org/becky/

File was last updated in October for version 2. Full information on
changes is in documentation. The info for new users in 'Becky Basics' has been updated extensively.

And... I actively seek corrections and omissions and suggestions. Thanks,
david

It's been three months since I updated my voluntary Becky! help file at http://davidskirk.org/becky/ but version 4 is now there for download. It includes clarification on IMAP features, a tip (from this group) on managing HTML incoming messages, expanded index on HTML-related topics and a new index entry on viruses as there are several topics that discuss virus prevention. That, and various updates on wording here and there.

I did testing with a number of IMAP accounts and also worked with Tomohiro to ensure the information is correct. The help file is primarily for new or casual users. If you see an error or have a suggestion, they're always welcome.

My unofficial help file is now updated at http://davidskirk.org/becky/ It includes the new features of 2.57 with some updates to the Agents topic to blend them together, plus additions to the Reply topic to display alternate ways to select original text for reply, plus some clarifications in search features and tweaks here and there. Primarily aimed at new or infrequent users. For example, I prefer to highlight and reply without using the Cite button and that's not obvious to new users who read the help file.

Okay, it's been less than a month, but a lot has happened and I noticed an error on email replies in prior version. The latest version is almost a complete rewrite of the topic on replying to email, plus includes info on multiple users and several tweaks to index. The help file is aimed at the new or casual user. If interested, you can download version 257/2 at
http://davidskirk.org/becky/

I have a new version of my Becky! help file available from
http://davidskirk.org/becky/ Size is now 32,200 words, up 1,500 words from the July version. Several suggestions had been sent to me that seemed a good fit for a help file, plus I included some bits of information on some of the topics that have been discussed here, such as compaction, protocol logs, debugging ISP setups and other stuff. From the suggestions I added information on doing backups, creating archives, accessing POP mail on the server and some other odds and ends... The help file also has a slightly different look. To complement the information on backups, I now include a registry backup plugin with instructions (for those who might not already have one.)

As before, this is a hobby of mine and primarily targeted at new or casual users who periodically need assistance. Suggestions - and corrections - are always welcome - offline, preferably, so as not to disrupt other discussions. Thanks,
david

My latest help file is now available at http://davidskirk.org/becky/ In addition to a help file (CHM) I now also include a PDF format for those who like to read in book fashion - but I still recommend the CHM file as primary reference because of its index and search facility. I had received a couple of inquiries on a PDF version for new users and those who like to read in PDF layout so I hope this helps.

Major changes are in profiles and global profiles, plus more information on backup and restore capability. This version has approximately 2,000 more words than prior version.

Feedback or errors or omissions, preferably offline, is welcome as I had been taking a wrong turn with profiles and have made a correction.

Okay, no new content, but I created a workable version of my help file on the web at http://davidskirk.org/beckyhelp/ In November, I created a PDF version that some users liked and creating a web version seemed a reasonable next step. The back button on browser doesn't work properly (yet) from Firefox browsers newer than version 3, but it seemed to function properly with IE8, Opera, Safari and Chrome. My PC is set at 1024x768 so it may look different on other settings. I also updated the basic page at http://davidskirk.org/becky/ to link to it. There has been no update to content since the November release. And... happy 2012 to everyone.
