A common problem in the Windows XP\2003 is that; all of a sudden the folder view type for a particular folder(s) keeps reseting.
e.g.: The "My Documents" folder always opens in Thumbnail; even though you set it to List.

There are 3 possible solutions for this; follow any-one of them:
  • This method is recommended for users who are not comfortable with the Windows Registry:
Open Control Panel -> Folder Options.
In the Folder Options Window; click the View tab, and now click on the Reset All Folders button.

  • If the above method does'nt do the trick; follow the steps below:
Open regedit (Start -> Run. Type: regedit. Press <enter>)
    Goto: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam
    Delete the following keys:
    BagMRU
    Bags

[*]To aviod this situation form occuring again for any other folder; we can increase the size of the cache (Bag); follow the steps below:
(Note: This steps is only recommended for advanced users)
Open regedit.
Go to:-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
and add a DWORD called
BagMRU Size
and give it a value of: 0x00001388 (or 5000 in decimal)

Then go to :-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam

make a DWORD called
BagMRU Size
and give it a value of: 0x00001388 (or 5000 in decimal)
