    Posted 19 May 2012

What was the first version of Windows you used? Never really paid attention to the number of Windows versions that Microsoft put out until I made up this list. Now MS is working on Windows 8. I began with Windows 95 and now using Windows XP on my desktop and Windows 7 on my laptop.

Windows 8: web navigation by touch

    New features in Windows 8

If you've surfed the internet on a tablet or a smartphone, then you'll probably be frustrated by the desktop PC experience. Web browsing is arguably one of the activities to have benefited most from multi-touch technology. Sweeping through pages, pinching to zoom in and out, quickly accessing bookmarks and links by tap, all feel much more intuitive.

With Windows 8 Microsoft has taken the idea of touch-based browsing and built Internet Explorer 10 around it, making a browser that prioritises touch for use within the Metro interface. Of course, you can use it with a mouse too, and in the standard, more old-fashioned Windows interface, but touch is really intended to be the primary methodology. As well as catering for a more intuitive way of using the web, touch gives you fast-and-easy access to a range of tools that can make browsing more productive. So, lets jump right in and explain what that means in the real world.

    Windows 8: Getting started

When you first open the web browser there's a navigation bar along the bottom. This offers some basic tools for getting around such as reloading or revisiting a web page, the ability to search for a term or complete URL, and the option to pin a page to the Start screen. Whenever you choose to pin a page to the start screen a small box will appear. Type in a reference name for the web page that means something to you, hit ‘Pin to Start' and your web page is on the Start Screen.

iPhone 5 release date, specs and rumour round-up

From launch date to specs: All your iPhone 5 news and speculation in one place

Here it is, the iPhone 5 release date, specs and rumour round-up! This is the place where you can find out all of the sordid rumours about what the iPhone 5 will be like. Will it be 4G? Will it have an A6 processor? Will it even be called the iPhone 5 or will it just be called the new iPhone, like its tablet sibling? This is the place where you can pig-out on respectable and ridiculous iPhone 5 rumours alike. Contributing author: Chris Martin.

Once again, we need to make it clear that these are just rumours. We didn't make them up, we have merely rounded them up for you and presented them in an up-to-date and easy to digest format. If you think a rumour looks fishy, then let us know and vent your anger in our comment section below.

    Release date rumour: 1

iPhone 5 will "launch" in September - that's the claim by rumorsite Digitimes, which cites the ever-elusive but unquenchably talkative "Taiwan-based supply chain makers."

    Release date rumour: 2

The October prediction is backed up by the Japanese Apple bloggers Macotakara who say they have 'sources' confirming the Cupertino brand would be honouring the same upgrade cycle from now on. Here's a translation from the report featured on the well respected Japanese blog: "According to Asian reliable source, next iPhone will be released in September or October, and this cycle seems to be kept for years".
